WE HAVE ACHIEVED DRAMATIC SUCCESS IN PROMOTING STRATEGIC REINVESTMENT IN OUR COMMUNITY--RE-USING VACANT PROPERTY; PROMOTING AND PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING; SUPPORTING HOMEOWNERSHIP AND COMMERCIAL REDEVELOPMENT; STRENGTHENING THE VITALITY OF OUR ARTS DISTRICT; IMPROVING TRANSPORTATION AND CREATING MORE EQUITABLE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY. WE HAVE REDUCED THE NUMBER OF VACANT PROPERTIES BY HALF--TO APPROXIMATELY 200; AND WE HAVE CREATED MORE THAN 500 AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS AND A TOTAL OF 1,500 HOUSING UNITS SINCE 2010. WE HAVE IMPROVED THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICTS OF CENTRAL BALTIMORE ON NORTH AVENUE, GREENMOUNT AVENUE, ON LOWER CHARLES STREET, AND IN REMINGTON.

PROMOTING THE SAFETY, HEALTH AND WELFARE OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS AS A UNIQUE RESOURCE--A CHANGE AGENT--FOR THE CITY, REGION, AND STATE THAT BRINGS THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TOGETHER TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN CENTRAL BALTIMORE. THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHANGE IS MADE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATION CONTINUOUSLY DEVELOPED BOTH WITHIN THE PARTNERSHIP AND BY REACHING OUT TO NEW MEMBERS VIA OUR GOVERNING BODY, TASK FORCES, AND WORK GROUPS. WE HAVE STRENGTHENED OUR PUBLIC SAFETY, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND DRUG TREATMENT TASK FORCES; CREATED NEW LEGACY RESIDENTS, ARTISTS HOUSING, AND EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT WORK GROUPS; AND YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES AND COMMUNITY HEALTH TASK FORCES. THESE TASK FORCES AND WORK GROUPS BRING TOGETHER LEADERS FROM THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS, AND NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS, TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY, ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND HEALTH CARE AND HEALTHY HOUSING, AND ASSURE ALL RESIDENTS-ESPECIALLY OUR MOST VULNERABLE--HAVE ACCESS TO THE SERVICES AND SUPPORT THEY NEED.

ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN CENTRAL BALTIMORE NEIGHBORHOODS BY COLLABORATING WITH LOCAL FOUNDATIONS, LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT, FELLOW NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS TO CONNECT RESIDENTS TO EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES, PARTICULARLY THOSE MADE AVAILABLE BY OUR ANCHOR INSTITUTION AND OTHER MAJOR EMPLOYMENT CENTERS. WE ARE WORKING WITH JOB TRAINING, COMMUNITY, AND SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS TO BETTER LINK OUR MOST DISADVANTAGED RESIDENTS TO EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AND TO SUPPORT NEW SMALL BUSINESSES, ESPECIALLY MINORITY-OWNED BUSINESSES SO THAT THEY CAN START-UP OR EXPAND IN CENTRAL BALTIMORE.
