Community Programs - The Junior League of Baltimore develops women leaders who assess community needs and gaps, bring awareness to issues, and deliver effective community service programs to fill unmet needs. The heart of our organization's mission is to develop the potential of our members to become effective civic leaders through volunteerism. Our vision is that every woman has the skills and confidence to thrive at life. Our organization builds capacity of other local non-profits. Examples of such include founding the Hampden Family Center, providing social services to the House of Ruth to combat domestic violence against women; support services to the Women's Housing Coalition to assist homeless and low-income women in Baltimore; and providing assistance to Asylee Women's Enterprise to aid asylum seekers in Baltimore. Since inception in 1912, the Junior League of Baltimore has dedicated over 1,000,000 volunteer hours to help improve our community. our members spend almost 1,000 hours in official league training every year. Our in-kind donations totaled $222,233 for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2019. The Wise Penny, our thrift shop, is our largest fundraiser. Located in downtown Baltimore, Maryland, it sells gently used quality merchandise (clothing and household items) donated by the membership as well as the local community and sold at affordable prices. Not only does the Junior League of Baltimore fulfil a need of our lower-income local residents by supplying goods at very reasonable prices, but we also provide volunteer opportunities and educational opportunities through local colleges.
The Larks - This singing ensemble is the oldest running community service project of the JLB. Lark's members volunteer their time to sing at various locations throughout the local community, including senior care centers, hospitals, and local events.
