THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND ACTIVITIES INVOLVE OPERATING SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS INCLUDE A WIDE RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO SUPPORT THE INCLUSION OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. THESE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED THROUGH OUR NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED K-8 SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL AND AUTISM PROGRAM IN BALTIMORE, MONTGOMERY COUNTY MD, AND OUR PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACROSS MARYLAND.ALL OF THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES WE PROVIDE EMPHASIZE AN INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH TO EDUCATION THAT MEETS STATE AND FEDERAL MANDATES WITH THE GOAL OF PREPARING STUDENTS TO TRANSITION BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITIES AND LEAD SUCCESSFUL LIVES. THE KNOWLEDGE OUR EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS HAVE GAINED THROUGH THEIR UNIQUE EXPERIENCES IS ALSO SHARED THROUGH OUR EDUCATIONAL TRAINING AND CONSULTING PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS OUR WORK WITH THE MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
FOR THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WE SERVE, KENNEDY KRIEGER'S ROLE EXTENDS FAR BEYOND THE CLINIC OR CLASSROOM AND DIRECTLY INTO THE COMMUNITIES WHERE THEY LIVE.FOR THAT REASON, WE'RE COMMITTED TO SHARING OUR KNOWLEDGE THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITIES, ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND AROUND THE WORLD. BY INCREASING AWARENESS AND BREAKING DOWN SOCIETAL BARRIERS, WE BELIEVE THAT ALL PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES CAN ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL. AND BY OFFERING A WIDE RANGE OF COMMUNITY-ORIENTED PROGRAMS, PROJECTS, AND SERVICES, KENNEDY KRIEGER CAN PLAY AN IMPORTANT AND LONG-TERM ROLE IN THEIR SUCCESS.THE CORNERSTONE OF THESE EFFORTS IS THE MARYLAND CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (MCDD) AT KENNEDY KRIEGER INSTITUTE. THROUGH THE CENTER'S FOCUS ON PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, COMMUNITY SERVICE, RESEARCH, AND INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, WE ARE WORKING WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES AND SUSTAIN CHANGE.COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS INCLUDE EARLY HEAD START, THERAPEUTIC FOSTER CARE, PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED SPORTS AND RECREATION, SPECIALIZED HEALTH NEEDS INTERAGENCY COLLABORATION, PROJECT HEAL (HEALTH, EDUCATION, ADVOCACY AND LAW) ETC.
