Organizations Filed Purposes: AS A STATEWIDE RESOURCE CENTER, THE SCHOOL PROVIDES OUTREACH, EDUCATIONAL AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES FOR STUDENTS TO REACH THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL BY PREPARING THEM TO BE AS SUCCESSFUL, INDEPENDENT AND WELL-ROUNDED CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES AS POSSIBLE. THE MARYLAND SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND, SERVING AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF MARYLAND'S SPECIAL EDUCATION CONTINUUM, WILL EXCEED STUDENT-ACHIEVEMENT EXPECTATIONS BY SETTING HIGH STANDARDS AND PROVIDING BEST-PRACTICE PROGRAMS IN STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES. TO ACHIEVE ITS MULTIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES, THE SCHOOL IS COMMITTED TO SAFETY, WELLNESS, FAIRNESS, RESPECT, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, ETHICAL STANDARDS AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF PROGRAM QUALITY, PROFESSIONALISM, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND STEWARDSHIP OF FUNDS.

TO EDUCATE AND FACILITATE FUNCTIONAL INDEPENDENCE FOR YOUTH WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS.

THE MARYLAND SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND PROVIDES GENERAL AND FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. THE GENERAL ACADEMIC PROGRAM SERVES STUDENTS WHO ARE ON AN ACADEMIC DIPLOMA TRACK AND DESIGNED TO ADDRESS LEARNING ISSUES AND FACILITATE A SUCCESSFUL RETURN TO THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL SYSTEM. THE FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAM IS COMPRISED OF PROGRAMS TO MEET THE EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED. IN THE SCHOOL'S GENERAL AND FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMS, SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 135 STUDENTS, 50 OF WHICH WERE RESIDENTIAL. ALL GRADUATING STUDENTS FULFILLED THEIR TRANSITION PLANS TO ADDITIONAL SCHOOLING, ASPIRE TO BECOME MEMBERS OF THE WORK FORCE UPON GRADUATION.

THE MARYLAND SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND'S PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND WITH AUTISM SERVES STUDENTS WITH COMMUNICATION AND RELATING DISORDERS INCLUDING THOSE ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON FUNCTIONAL LIFE SKILLS, COMMUNICATION AND LEARNING IS SUPPORTED IN A HIGHLY STRUCTURED, SENSORY CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTS. IN THE SCHOOL'S PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND WITH AUTISM SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 40 STUDENTS, OF WHICH 23 WERE RESIDENTIAL. ALL GRADUATING STUDENTS FULFILLED THEIR TRANSITION PLANS TO WORK OR DAY PROGRAMS UPON GRADUATION.

THE MARYLAND SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND'S PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND WITH MULTIPLE DISABLITIES SERVES STUDENTS WITH SEVER AND PROFOUND DISABLITIES WITH EMPHASIS ON FUNCTIONAL AND LIFE SKILLS. THIS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION THE COMPLEX HEALTH AND PHYSICAL NEEDS OF EACH STUDENT, WHILE DEVELOPING AGE APPROPRIATE ADAPTIVE SKILLS TO INCREASE INDEPENDENCE. IN THE SCHOOL'S PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLIND WITH MULTIPLE DISABLITIES, SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 43 STUDENTS, OF WHICH 18 WERE RESIDENTIAL. ALL GRADUATING STUDENTS FULFILLED THEIR TRANSITION PLANS TO WORK OR DAY PROGRAMS.
