Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MARYLAND STATE BOYCHOIR, INC. (MSB) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1987 AND IS DEVOTED TO THE ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF MARYLAND BOYS. MSB'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TALENTED BOYS FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS TO DEVELOP THEIR MUSICAL AND SOCIAL SKILLS THROUGH A RIGOROUS PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION AND CHORAL PERFORMANCES. MSB ALSO STRIVES TO SERVE THE BROADER COMMUNITY BY OFFERING FACILITIES FOR THE ARTS, CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE, RELIGIOUS GROUPS (INCLUDING THE CONGREGATION OF ST. MATTHEW UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE MARYLAND BOYCHOIR CENTER FOR THE ARTS), AND LOCAL RESIDENTS - PARTICULARLY THE MAYFIELD COMMUNITY.

THE THIRTY MEMBERS OF THE TOUR CHOIR TOURED NEWFOUNDLAND AND NOVA SCOTIA IN JULY 2019, WHILE THE SIXTY MEMBERS OF THE CONCERT CHOIR TRAVELED TO TORONTO AND OTTAWA, WITH STOPS AT NIAGARA FALLS AND WESTERN PA. ADDITIONALLY, DURING THE FALL AND SPRING WEEKEND TOURS, MSB CHORISTERS PERFORMED THROUGHOUT THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION. THE YOUNG MEN'S CHORUS JOURNEYED TO SAVANNAH AND HILTON HEAD ISLAND IN FEBRUARY 2019. THROUGH TOURING, MSB CHORISTERS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP A HIGH LEVEL OF SELF-MOTIVATED LEARNING, PROFESSIONALISM, AND SELF-DISCIPLINE WHILE DEMONSTRATING MATURITY AND RESPONSIBILITY AS PERFORMERS.

THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED 150 CHORISTERS, STAFF, AND CHAPERONES FOR A WEEKLONG SUMMER CAMP AND A THREE DAY WINTER CAMP. DURING THAT TIME, THE BOYS LEARNED NEW REPERTOIRE FOR UPCOMING TOURS AND FOR THE UPCOMING FALL SEASON. THEY ALSO PARTICIPATED IN A NUMBER OF MUSIC AND NON-MUSIC RELATED ELECTIVES, ENJOYED PEER-TO-PEER INTERACTION, AND LEARNED MANNERS AND SOCIAL SKILLS. THESE TWO CAMPS FOCUS ON TEACHING CHORISTERS SELF-RELIANCE, RESPONSIBILITY, AND INDEPENDENCE. IN THE ANNUAL RITUAL KNOWN AS "SUMMER CAMP," CHORISTERS LEARN HOW TO PUT ASIDE "ME AND BECOME THE REMARKABLE "WE" THAT IS THE KEY TO THE MARYLAND STATE BOYCHOIR.

DURING THE CHORAL SEASON, THE ORGANIZATION TRAINED OVER 120 BOYS IN THE DEMANDING ART OF CHORAL SINGING THROUGH GROUP REHEARSALS AND INDIVIDUALIZED VOCAL LESSONS. TRAINING INCLUDES RECOGNIZING NOTE VALUES AND MUSIC NOTATIONS WITH AN EMPHASIS THAT MUSIC IS A LANGUAGE. WHILE THE STAFF IS WELL AWARE OF THE YOUNG AGE OF MANY OF THESE SINGERS, THEY EXPECT A SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM FROM EACH BOY. THE INDIVIDUAL DESIRE FOR EXCELLENCE LEADS TO A CULTURE OF COOPERATION AND MUTUAL SUPPORT AS THE CHOIR STRIVES TO PRODUCE THE BEST ENSEMBLE SOUND POSSIBLE.
