Organizations Filed Purposes: THE PRETRIAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE'S CORE PURPOSE IS TO ADVANCE SAFE, FAIR, AND EFFECTIVE JUVENILE AND ADULT PRETRIAL JUSTICE PRACTICES AND POLICIES THAT HONOR AND PROTECT ALL PEOPLE.

TO ADVANCE SAFE, FAIR, AND EFFECTIVE PRETRIAL REFORM THAT HONORS AND PROTECTS ALL PEOPLE.

COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT AND CONVENING: PJI SUPPORTED TWO CONVENINGS OF THE SAFETY AND JUSTICE CHALLENGE NETWORK AND THE ONLINE COMMUNITY AND TRAINING PLATFORM, THE SJC EXCHANGE, WHICH BOASTS A MEMBERSHIP OF THOUSANDS - PRACTITIONERS, SYSTEM ACTORS, ADVOCATES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS. PJI'S JUVENILE DETENTION ALTERNATIVES INITIATIVE (JDAI) PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ANNIE E. CASEY FOUNDATION'S EXTENDED TO ITS 14TH YEAR. THROUGH OUR RUNNING OF JDAI CONNECT, WE ARE SUPPORTING THE JDAI NETWORK OF PRACTITIONERS AND YOUTH LEADERS FIGHTING ON THE FRONT LINES TO EMPTY OUT THE LAST OF OUR LOCAL JUVENILE DETENTION FACILITIES AND EXPAND INTO CLOSING YOUTH PRISONS. PJI HOSTED PI-CON, OUR PRETRIAL INNOVATORS BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, IN JULY WITH OVER 250 PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. THERE WE WERE ABLE TO SHOW OUR SHARED LEADERSHIP IN ACTION AND THE RESULTS OF BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ADVOCATES, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND THOSE DIRECTLY IMPACTED. WE WERE GENEROUSLY SUPPORTED BY PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND FUNDERS TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO MANY WHO COULD OTHERWISE NOT ATTEND.

EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY: WITH FUNDING FROM THE ART FOR JUSTICE FUND, WE ARE WORKING WITH DOZENS OF STATEWIDE PARTNERS TO SUPPORT BAIL REFORM IN THE STATE OF OHIO. WE ALSO REVISED OUR CURRICULUM ON THE HISTORY OF BAIL, ADDING A RACIAL EQUITY LENS, AND HAVE MORE PLANNED IN 2020.

IN 2019, PJI RESPONDED TO MULTIPLE REQUESTS FOR TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ENTERING INTO FEE-FOR-SERVICE CONTRACTS FOR DELIVERY OF CUSTOMIZED EVIDENCE-BASED TRAININGS. PJI COLLABORATED WITH IMPACT JUSTICE ON ITS PRISON RAPE ELIMINATION ACT (PREA) RESOURCE CENTER IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CURRICULA. IN ADDITION, WITH FUNDS FROM THE STATE JUSTICE INSTITUTE, PJI SUPPORTED STATE COURTS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE NEEDS.
