Organizations Filed Purposes:
Training low-wage workers on workers rights, labor law, human rights and workplace/community health and safety as well as providing education and leadership development and leadership and advocacy skills to benefit their work, communities, personal and public lives.
Addressing homelessness, affordable housing, environmental, health, and workplace isses has raised levels of engagement for workers in Baltimore and surrounding jurisdictions. Expanded survey outreach and community discussions undergirded campaign activity to address fair development issues identified in low-wage communities in the metropolitan area, inclduing those exposed in protests in Baltimore, need for comunity land trusts (a white paper on non-speculative housing), and opposition to increased environmental pollution in an impacted community.
The Baltimore City Youth Fund grant is enabling United Workers to develop youth leadership in South Baltimore through the creation a summer Youth Corps. Divided into 6 teams, each led by a Youth Organizer, these high school aged participants will design and complete a specific neighborhood Waste Reduction/Beautification project.
Compost colletive to encourage recycling and reduce waste in Baltimore.
