Organizations Filed Purposes: AACOM LEADS AND ADVOCATES FOR THE OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION COMMUNITY TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE PUBLIC. AACOM REPRESENTS AND ADVANCES THE CONTINUUM OF MEDICAL EDUCATION BY: SUPPORTING OUR MEMBER INSTITUTIONS AS THEY EDUCATE THE FUTURE PHYSICIAN WORKFORCE; INCREASING AWARENESS OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION AND OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE; PROMOTING EXCELLENCE IN MEDICAL EDUCATION, POLICY, RESEARCH, AND SERVICE; AND FOSTERING INNOVATION AND QUALITY THROUGHOUT MEDICAL EDUCATION.

CENTRALIZED STUDENT APPLICATION SERVICE - THE AACOM APPLICATION SERVICE (AACOMAS) PROCESSES APPLICATIONS FOR STUDENTS APPLYING TO U.S. OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL COLLEGES. AACOMAS SIMPLIFIES THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE STUDENT, ALLOWING THEM TO APPLY TO SEVERAL MEDICAL SCHOOLS WITH A SINGLE COMMON APPLICATION. THE CENTRALIZED SERVICE ALSO SIMPLIFIES AND STANDARDIZES THE APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS FOR AACOM'S MEMBER COLLEGES BY VERIFYING APPLICATION DATA. DURING THIS YEAR, 36 COLLEGES AND 23,373 STUDENT APPLICANTS BENEFITED. AACOM WORKS TO DEVELOP AWARENESS ABOUT OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE AMONG POTENTIAL MEDICAL SCHOOL APPLICANTS THROUGH RECRUITMENT PROGRAMS. AACOM'S RECRUITMENT EFFORTS SEEK TO ATTRACT AN ACADEMICALLY WELL-QUALIFIED POOL OF APPLICANTS FOR ITS MEMBER MEDICAL SCHOOLS.

OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS - THE AACOM OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS REPRESENTS THE ASSOCIATION'S CONSTITUENTS TO CONGRESS AND FEDERAL POLICY MAKERS IN LEADING THE ASSOCIATION'S CONGRESSIONAL AND FEDERAL POLICY ADVOCACY EFFORTS. THE OFFICE KEEPS CONSTITUENTS INFORMED OF FEDERAL POLICY AND REGULATORY DEVELOPMENTS IN OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION AND THE OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS INFORMS FEDERAL LEGISLATORS OF THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATORS. THE DEPARTMENT ALSO WORKS IN CONCERT WITH VARIOUS NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND COALITIONS TO INFLUENCE BOTH LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY ISSUES RELEVANT TO OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION. THE GOVERNMENT RELATIONS DEPARTMENT SUPPORTS AND WORKS IN COLLABORATION WITH THE ASSOCIATION'S PRESIDENT AND CEO AND ITS BOARD OF DEANS, AACOM'S GOVERNING BODY.

OFFICE OF MEDICAL EDUCATION - THE AACOM OFFICE OF MEDICAL EDUCATION WORKS WITH MEMBER COLLEGES TO PROMOTE EXCELLENCE IN OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION FOCUSING ON ISSUES RELATED TO TEACHING, TECHNOLOGY, ASSESSMENT AND CURRICULUM, THROUGHOUT THE UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATIONAL CONTINUUM AND INTO GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION. IT DEVELOPS AND PROVIDES INFORMATION RESOURCES, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATORS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND RESEARCHERS, THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND AS A CONDUIT FOR RESOURCES AND SHARING OF BEST PRACTICES, AS WELL AS PROMOTES COLLABORATION AMONG THEM THROUGH THE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND OTHER EVENTS. THE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUAL, INSTITUTIONAL, AND INTER-INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH FOR MEDICAL EDUCATION AND/OR INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH RELATED TO OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION. IT ADMINISTERS THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATORS (NAOME), WHICH RECOGNIZES AND SUPPORTS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND SCHOLARSHIP IN THE OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION PROFESSION. DEPARTMENT STAFF SUPPORTS AND WORKS IN COLLABORATION WITH COUNCIL LIAISONS TO MANAGE AND ADMINISTER COUNCIL ACTIVITIES AND MEETINGS.
