A GATEWAY DRUG TO THEATRE THAT BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN POP CULTURE AND HIGH CULTURE, WE ARE DEDICATED TO THE CREATION, DEVELOPMENT, AND PRODUCTION OF VIBRANT ORIGINAL WORK, OFFBEAT CONTEMPORARY PLAYS, AND THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE ART INSPIRED BY GENRE FICTION AND OTHER MODERN MYTHOLOGIES. BY CREATING WORK THAT REFLECTS THE INTIMATE STRUGGLES OF THE HUMAN CONDITION THROUGH VIVID, HIGH CONCEPT METAPHORS AND ARTISTIC VIGOR, WE HOPE TO SHINE A LIGHT ON THE LONELINESS AND ISOLATION THAT SO MANY FEEL AND CREATE A SENSE OF CONNECTION AND WONDER. WE ARE YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD INDIE THEATRE. EXPECT AWESOME. BE AWESOME.

CRYSTAL CREEK MOTEL, SEEN BY OVER 500 AUDIENCE MEMBERS OVER THE COURSE OF ITS 20-SHOW RUN, WAS BOTH SOMETHING NEW AND OLD FOR FLYING V. DIPPING ITS TOES BACK INTO THE WATERS OF DEVISED PRODUCTION IN A VIGNETTE-STYLE (A TRADEMARK OF FLYING V THEATRE MAIN STAGES) THE SHOW BROKE NEW FLYING V GROUND BY DOING THIS WITH 12 UNIQUE VIGNETTES, INTERSTITIAL SCENES, AND 7 DIRECTORIAL STYLES, THAT SPANNED THE BREADTH OF REALISTIC TO SURREAL, OF BROAD TO INTIMATE, ALL WITHIN THE SAME SINGLE MOTEL ROOM SET. THE SHOW, DIRECTED BY 7 SEPARATE PEOPLE, TOOK PLACE ON ONE PERMANENT SET, A MOTEL ROOM, AND INCLUDED TRANSITIONS WHICH FEATURED THE SAME CLEANING CREW OVER A FULL YEAR, PROVIDING A NARRATIVE ARC IN BETWEEN AUTEUR VIGNETTES BUILT OUT OF TEXT, DANCE, AND MOVEMENTBASED STORYTELLING. CCM RECEIVED 2 HELEN HAYES AWARDS (HHA) NOMINATIONS FOR CHOREOGRAPHY AND SET DESIGN. ADDITIONALLY, CRYSTAL CREEK MOTEL WAS FLYING V'S FIRST MAIN STAGE TO FEATURE A CAST OF 50% ARTISTS OF COLOR (AOC) AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT DIVERSITY ON THE DIRECTING TEAM - INCLUDING TWO ASIAN AMERICAN DIRECTORS, A DIRECTOR WORKING WITH A DISABILITY, AND ARTISTS ACROSS THE LGBTQIA+ SPECTRUM AND THE RELIGIOUS SPECTRUM.

FLYING V'S PRO WRESTLING WING LAUNCHED IN 2019 WITH 4 SOLD OUT SHOWS, REACHING 600+ AUDIENCEMEMBERS LIVE AND HUNDREDS MORE VIA LIVE STREAMING, BRINGING IN OVER $25,000 IN TOTAL REVENUE. FVF:PW WAS FLYING V'S GREATEST EARNED INCOME PROGRAMMING SUCCESS TO DATE. ADDITIONALLY, FVF:PW SHOWS HAVE FEATURED OVER 20+ AOC OF ALL BACKGROUNDS WITH STRONG REPRESENTATION OF FEMALE AND OPENLY GAY OR BISEXUAL PERFORMERS. THESE PERFORMERS, AND OTHERS, HAVE HELPED FLYING V TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN HOW AUDIENCES THINK ABOUT "TRADITIONAL THEATRE AND PRO WRESTLING ENABLING FLYING V TO TELL STORIES WITH MOVEMENT, CHOREOGRAPHY, AND STAGE COMBAT IN THE RING, THESAME WAY THEY DO ONSTAGE. THE THEATRICS OF LIGHTING AND SOUND DESIGN AND THE SKILL AND PREPARATION OF THE PERFORMERS ALL COME TOGETHER TO PUT ON DISPLAY OF PHYSICAL STORYTELLING, NOT UNLIKE MORE TRADITIONAL DANCE OR THEATRE PERFORMANCE AND THE HIGH PRODUCTION VALUE THAT IS A PART OF THE FLYING V BRAND HAS ENABLED FLYING V TO SET THEMSELVES APART FROM OTHER SMALL INDEPENDENT WRESTLING EVENTS IN THE AREA TRULY ESTABLISHING THE COMPANY AS A PERFORMING ARTS LEADER, WITH NEW AND DIFFERENT WAYS OF THINKING ABOUT AND PRESENTING WHAT STORYTELLING AND PERFORMANCE CAN BE.

WE'RE GONNA DIE WAS A ONE-WOMAN SHOW THAT EXPLORED MORTALITY THROUGH A COMBINATION OFSPOKEN WORD AND ROCK MUSIC WITH A FOCUSED SCRIPT WRITTEN BY AN ASIAN-AMERICAN FEMALEPLAYWRIGHT (YOUNG JEAN LEE) AND FEMALE-FRONTED BAND. LOCAL MUSICIANS, STORYTELLERS, ANDCOMEDIANS WERE HIRED AS ROTATING OPENING ACTS THROUGH THE RUN AND THIS PRODUCTION WAS EQUAL PARTSCATHARTIC REFLECTION AND ROCK SHOW. WGD RECEIVED A HHA NOMINATION FOR MUSICAL DIRECTION, ANDACHIEVED SOME OF THE GOALS OF FLYING V'S MISSION TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SHARED UNIVERSALEXPERIENCES (LIKE LOSS AND GRIEF) THAT MAKE US FEEL ISOLATED, AND USE THOSE STORIES TO DRAW FOLKSTOGETHER AND UPLIFT THEM IN COMMUNITY WITH OTHER VIEWERS AND THE ARTIST ONSTAGE; TO MAKE PEOPLEFEEL, FUNDAMENTALLY, LESS ALONE EVEN IN THE FACE OF THE TOPICS THAT CAN BE THE MOST ISOLATING. THESHOW RAN FOR 18 PRODUCTIONS, SEEN BY OVER 450 AUDIENCE MEMBERS AT THE BETHESDA WRITERS'CENTER, AND ALLOWED FLYING V TO BREAK IN, IN STYLE, NEW LED-LIGHTING EQUIPMENT MADE POSSIBLE BYA MORGAN FOUNDATION GRANT.
