PRESERVING AND STRENGTHENING COMRADESHIP AMONG AMONG ITS MEMBERS, PERPETUATING THE MEMORY AND HISTORY OF OUR DEPARTED COMRADES BY CONDUCTING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO EMPHASIZE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF JAPANESE AMERICAN WAR VETERANS INCLUDING SPEECHES AND DISCUSSION PANELS; PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING DECENDENTS AND DEPENDENTS OF JAPANESE AMEICAN VETERANS AND JAVA MEMBERS.
A FRATERNAL, PATRIOTIC, EDUCATIONAL, AND HISTORICAL ORGANIZATION.
SCHOLARSHIP: PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING DECENDENTS AND DEPENDENTS OF JAPANESE AMERICAN VETERANS AND JAVA MEMBERS. A SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTTEE REVIEWS APPLICATIONS AND SELECTS RECIPIENTS; SCHOLARSHIPS ARE ANNOUNCED AT AN ANNUAL LUNCHEON. NOTE IN TAX YEAR 2017, DUE TO A TIMING ISSUE JAVA SCHOLARSHIP CHECKS WERE ISSUED FOR FY 2018 AND FY 2019. AS A RESULT NO SCHOLARSHIP CHECKS WERE ISSUED IN TAX YEAR 2018.
EVENTS: ONE OF JAVA'S PRIMARY MISSION IS TO SPONSOR HISTORICAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT DOCUMENT THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF JAPANESE AMERICAN VETERANS, ESPECIALLY THE NISEI IN WWII. JAVA PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM FROM JULY 1, 2018 TO JUNE 30, 2019: NOVEMBER 2018 VETERANS DAY PROGRAM (AUDIO/VISUAL SUPPORT, TENT/CHAIR RENTAL, FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS, NPS PERMIT FEE, ETC.) - THE COST WAS $3,016.92 WITH APPROXIMATELY 60 ATTENDEES; APRIL 2019 SAKURA MATSUI BOOTH (RENTAL), THE COST WAS $275.00 WHERE VOLUNTEERS SPOKE AND EDUCATED OVER 300 BOOTH VISITORS; 2019 MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY (FLORAL ARRANGEMENT EXPENSES) - THE COST WAS $2058.81 AND THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 100 ATTENDEES. JAVA ALSO CONDUCTS A NUMBER OF EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS AT AREA SCHOOLS, PRISONS AND MILITARY VENUES - THERE IS NO COST ASSOCIATED WITH THESE PROGRAMS AND JAVA REACHES OVER 800 INDIVIDUALS.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: JAVA ALSO WORKS TO ENCOURAGE PATRIOTISM AND NATIONAL PRIDE AMONG THE YOUNGER GENERATION AS WELL AS WORKS TO FOSTER AND MAINTAIN LIAISONS WITH OTHER VETERAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (VSOS) AS WELL AS INSTITUTIONS TO EDUCATION THE PUBLIC ABOUT NISEI AND AMERICANS OF JAPANESE ANCESTRY IN WWII THROUGH DONATIONS. FROM JULY 1, 2018 TO JUNE 30, 2019 JAVA MADE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FOLLOWING ORGANIAZATIONS AND GROUPS: ARMY HISTORICAL FOUNDATION IN SUPPORT OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE US ARMY ($5,900 / IMPACT 1,000); SMITHSONIAN DAY OF REMEMBRANCE WHICH RECOGNIZES PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT'S SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER 9066 LEADING TO THE INCARCERATION OF OVER 120,000 PERSONS OF JAPANESE ANCESTRY ($2,000 / IMPACT 500); THE NATIONAL JAPANESE AMERICAN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION'S FREEDOM WALK HELD DURING THE NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL ($750/ IMPACT 60); SPONSORSHIP OF ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR CONGRESSIONAL STUDIES (APAICS) MILITARY LUNCHEON ($1500/ IMPACT 300); FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF NISEI VETERANS (FFNV) WWII FRENCH BATTLEFIELD TOUR ($1,000/ IMPACT 150) MARKING THE 75TH SINCE THE END OF WWII.
