THE PARTNERSHIP FOR GLOBAL SECURITY (PGS) IS A NON-PARTISAN 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION WORKING HARD TO LEAD THE WORLD TO A SAFER FUTURE. PGS IS A RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONAL LEADER AND INNOVATOR IN THE NUCLEAR AND TRANSNATIONAL SECURITY POLICY AREA. IT PROVIDES ACTIONABLE RESPONSES TO 21ST CENTURY SECURITY CHALLENGES BY ENGAGING INTERNATIONAL, PRIVATE SECTOR, AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY EXPERT PARTNERS TO ASSESS POLICY NEEDS, IDENTIFY EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES, AND DRIVE DEMONSTRABLE RESULTS. PGS IS CONSTANTLY EVALUATING HOW THE CONVERGENCE OF SECURITY, TECHNOLOGY, AND ECONOMIC ISSUES INFLUENCE GLOBAL NUCLEAR CHALLENGES. PGS' FOCUS ON STRATEGIC THINKING AND DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO SHAPE, WRITE, AND PACKAGE TIMELY, AUTHORITATIVE, AND ACTIONABLE POLICY PROPOSALS FOR BUSY POLICYMAKERS HAS LED TO NEW INTERNATIONAL SECURITY PROGRAMS AND MILLIONS IN FUNDING FOR NUCLEAR SECURITY. PGS HAS A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE ON THE NUCLEAR SECURITY CHALLENGE AND A TRACK RECORD OF CREATING BROAD AND INTEGRATED NETWORKS
DURING THE YEAR, PGS CONTINUED ITS WORK ON NUCLEAR NONPROLIFERATION AND RELATED MATTERS FOCUSING ON THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS:THE GLOBAL NEXUS INITIATIVE (GNI) HAS BEEN A MULTI-YEAR JOINT EFFORT BY PGS AND THE NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTE TO EXPLORE THE LINKAGES AMOUNT CLIMATE CHANGE, NUCLEAR POWER, AND GLOBAL SECURITIES ISSUES. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLISHING OF THREE MAJOR POLICY MEMOS THAT FED INTO THE GROUNDBREAKING REPORT, "NUCLEAR POWER FOR THE NEXT GENERATION: ADDRESSING ENERGY, CLIMATE AND SECURITY CHALLENGES. IN NOW THE SECOND PHASE, GNI WILL ENGAGE IN A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS AND SMALL MEETINGS TO DEVELOP POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS THAT ADDRESS THE EVOLVING CHALLENGES CREATED BY THE DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF ADVANCED NUCLEAR REACTORS, EMERGING NUCLEAR SUPPLIES AND NEWCOMER NUCLEAR STATES, AND THE GEOPOLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF NUCLEAR POWER IN THE 21ST CENTURY.THE NUCLEAR POLICY LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE (NPLI) WAS BUILT ON THE BROADER AND DEEPER U.S.- KOREA RELATIONSHIP THAT RESULTED FROM THE 2ND NUCLEAR SECURITY SUMMIT IN 2012. DURING THE YEAR, PGS AND THE U.S.-KOREA INSTITUTE AT JOHNS HOPKINS SCHOOL OF ADVANCED INTERNATIONAL STUDIES HELD A POLICY AND COOPERATION ENGAGEMENT (PACE) MEETING IN APRIL 2017, ONE OF THREE SUCH MEETINGS HELD SINCE 2015. IN ADDITION, PGS BEGAN PLANNING AND PREPARING FOR AN ANNUAL U.S.- KOREA WORKSHOP ON NUCLEAR POWER, SECURITY AND NONPROLIFERATION, THE FIRST TO BE HELD IN THE FALL OF 2018
