Organizations Filed Purposes: Hero Dogs improves quality of life for our nations heroes by raising, training and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines free of charge, with lifetime support of the partnerships.

During this fiscal year, Hero Dogs undertook and completed a significant facility renovation that added an additional 1000 sq. ft. of program and administrative space. This allowed us to better utilize the existing space in our kennel, increasing both the capacity and the efficiency of our training programs. Our breeding program, originally launched in 2018, added an additional seven puppies to the puppy program with a litter born in December of 2019. To date, the breeding program has produced 18 puppies. We trained and placed five service dogs with veterans and first responders. Two facility dogs were placed with clinicians in the counseling departments of local schools. Two dogs were placed as skilled home companions with military families and two new therapy dog teams were created. Additionally, one of our dogs became a specialty placement, working towards certification as an Explosive Ordinance Detection (EOD) dog.

(Continued) During this fiscal year our 12 working therapy dogs completed 347 visits to various schools, hospitals, and other care facilities. Our nine facility dogs assisted 1,109 unique clients with various needs, including, animal assisted intervention, counseling accompaniment, physical and occupational therapy support, emotional support and staff self care. At the end of fiscal year 2020, we had 21 dogs in training. Continued emphasis was placed on veteran and community outreach and we participated in 165 education and awareness events, a 30% increase from the previous year.
