Rural Dog Rescue saves the lives of high risk dogs in economically challenged shelters in rural areas of the country. Our mission is to save the dogs that are at greatest risk of euthanasia and are the most overlooked dogs in the shelter. This includes but is not limited to: hounds, black dogs, seniors, and dogs that are sick, handicapped, or injured. Rural Dog Rescue is 100% volunteer- and foster-based and relies on donations.

In 2020, Rural Dog Rescue saved more than 150 dogs from high-kill shelters in rural areas as well as from urban shelters near DC. Once rescued, Rural Dog Rescue finds safe forever homes for these dogs in DC, MD, DE, and northern VA via weekly adoption events and adoptapet.com.
