FIRN OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF IMMIGRATION SERVICES FOR THOSE WITH LIMITED RESOURCES AT EITHER A MODEST FEE OR PRO BONO. THE TYPES OF CASES FIRN CURRENTLY HANDLES INCLUDE: NATURALIZATION AND CITIZENSHIP APPLICATIONS; PERMANENT RESIDENCE APPLICATIONS; FAMILY-BASED PETITIONS AND CONSULAR PROCESSING; VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT BASED APPLICATIONS; U AND T VISAS; SPECIAL IMMIGRANT JUVENILE STATUS; LIBERIAN REFUGEE IMMIGRATION FAIRNESS ACT; DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS; WORK AUTHORIZATION APPLICATIONS; CONSULTATIONS REGARDING ELIGIBILITY AND GUIDANCE ON IMMIGRATION LAWS AND REGULATIONS; NON-DETAINED DEPORTATION DEFENSE; DETAINED DEPORTATION DEFENSE; AND FEDERAL APPEALS.
INFORMATION AND REFERRAL - FIRN PROVIDES BASIC INFORMATION AND REFERRAL TO IMMIGRANTS FROM NEARLY 70 COUNTRIES TO HELP THEM NAVIGATE VARIOUS COMPLEX SERVICE SYSTEMS AS THEY LEARN TO ADAPT TO THE AMERICAN CULTURE. COMMON AREAS OF SUPPORT INCLUDE SOCIAL SERVICES, HEALTH SERVICES, EMPLOYMENT, AND HOUSING.
LANGUAGE CONNECTIONS - FIRN IS ONE OF ONLY A FEW NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN MARYLAND THAT PROVIDES INTERPRETER SERVICES THROUGH ITS LANGUAGE CONNECTIONS PROGRAM. SPECIALIZING IN HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, LANGUAGE CONNECTIONS OFFERS APPROXIMATELY 50-70 INTERPRETERS WHO SPEAK 30 OR MORE LANGUAGES. APPROXIMATELY 40 OF THESE INTERPRETERS ARE ALSO TRAINED AND CERTIFIED IN MEDICAL SERVICES.
