Organizations Filed Purposes: USING OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE CARING FOR LOVED ONES WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS, WE CONNECT, SUPPORT, AND EMPOWER MARYLAND'S FAMILIES AND ADVOCATE TO IMPROVE SYSTEMS THAT IMPACT INDIVIDUALS WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHALLENGES.

THE MARYLAND COALITION OF FAMILIES, INC. (THE COALITION) IS THE STATEWIDE VOICE FOR FAMILIES WHO CARE FOR SOMEONE WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS, AND IS DEDICATED TO BUILDING A FAMILY-DRIVEN NETWORK OF INFORMATION AND SUPPORT, AND IMPROVING SERVICES IN ALL SYSTEMS CARING FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, ADULTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES.

THE MARYLAND COALITION OF FAMILIES (MCF) HELPS FAMILIES WHO CARE FOR SOMEONE WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS. USING PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS PARENTS, CAREGIVERS AND OTHER LOVED ONES, MARYLAND COALITION OF FAMILIES CONNECTS, SUPPORTS AND EMPOWERS MARYLAND'S FAMILIES. OUR STAFF WORK ONE-TO-ONE WITH PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND WITH ANYONE WHO CARES ABOUT SOMEONE WITH A SUBSTANCE USE OR GAMBLING ISSUE. WE ALSO ADVOCATE TO IMPROVE SYSTEMS THAT IMPACT INDIVIDUALS WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHALLENGES AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE IMPACT OF THESE PROGRAMS IN FY20 INCLUDED: 3,548 ONE-TO-ONE PEER SUPPORT MEETINGS AND 12,431 PHONE CONTACTS WITH 2,450 FAMILIES; 403 SCHOOL MEETINGS ATTENDED AND 38 PHONE MEETINGS WITH FAMILIES AIMED AT BUILDING BETTER PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN THE FAMILY AND SCHOOL; DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION ABOUT MARYLAND'S GOOD SAMARITAN LAW TO 14,698 INDIVIDUALS; AND CONNECTION OF 313,000 INDIVIDUALS TO NEWS, INFORMATION AND RESOURCES THROUGH MCF'S WEBSITE, NEWSLETTER AND SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS.MCF PROVIDED FAMILY PEER SUPPORT TO PARENTS AND OTHER CAREGIVERS IN ALL 24 JURISDICTIONS OF THE STATE, WITH REGIONAL OFFICES ON THE EASTERN SHORE (ONE IN MID SHORE AND THE OTHER ON THE LOWER SHORE), IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND, WESTERN MARYLAND, BALTIMORE COUNTY AND IN BALTIMORE CITY. MCF PROMOTED LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AMONG PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES THROUGH ITS ANNUAL, STATEWIDE, SIX-WEEKEND FAMILY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE AND TWO REGIONAL FAMILY LEADERSHIP RETREATS. IN ADDITION, MCF CO-DIRECTED WITH THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF MARYLAND THE STATE'S ANNUAL CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN, WHICH REACHED 600 PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS AND 199 COMMUNITY PARTNERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, WITH OVER 62,000 MATERIALS DISTRIBUTED. FURTHERMORE, MCF'S STATEWIDE YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT ADVISORY COUNCIL, TAKING FLIGHT, HOSTED ACTIVITIES THAT INVOLVED YOUTH WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHALLENGES AND PROMOTED ACCEPTANCE, YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AND THE REDUCTION OF STIGMA. FINALLY, MCF ADVOCATED FOR IMPROVING SERVICES IN ALL SYSTEMS OF CARE FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, ADULTS AND FAMILIES THROUGH SYSTEM-LEVEL ADVOCACY, INCLUDING ITS ANNUAL FAMILY DAY IN ANNAPOLIS, AND THROUGH PARTICIPATION ON STATE-LEVEL, PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEES.
