Organizations Filed Purposes: Provide nationally certified search dog teams with support management personnel to requesting agencies to assist in finding lost or missing persons utilizing the teams' volunteer members dogs. Additionally provide Community Education and Awareness training on how to avoid getting lost and what to do to help search teams find you if you have become lost.

The majority of Calvert K-9 Search Team's time is spent training both the canines and the members to be ready to execute a search mission. This includes all facets of dog and handler training to conduct search operations starting at the basic building blocks of dog/handler interactions, specific canine search technique training steps, and advanced dog training. Training culminates in independent National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) testing/certification, followed by long term training to maintain proficiency. Both the individual members and team as a whole also train in search technique skills, search management, victim behavior, and effectively working within the Incident Command System structure. All members are also independently tested and certified by NASAR. The end result is a professionally trained volunteer search and rescue canine team ready to save lives.

We participated in being called out for 8 major searches, at the request of the various Maryland Law Enforcement agencies from both state level and local Sheriffs Office level. The searches were for both missing persons including walk aways, and for murder/suicide victims. These searches were spanning all times of day 24/7/365 and in all weather.

Calvert K-9 Search Team is currently made up of 22 members and 16 search dogs. We participated in 2 major community events during 2020. The focus of our attendance at these was solely to provide community education and awareness training on how to avoid getting lost and want to do to help search teams find you if you have become lost. In doing these events we would typically set up a table with pamphlet information handouts, display our search and rescue equipment, have many of our dogs in crates for viewing along with many of our members in uniform to answer all the questions from the event participants. If space was allowed we would walk around with the dogs to answer questions and allow them to interact with the dogs. In addition we would perform search dog demonstrations, which would include airscent dogs running off lead, and tracking dogs on lead all searching for volunteers from the audience. The community benefited from these events by learning about lost subject behavior, search team training , search dogs and lost person actions to help being found.
