IAIA provides the international forum to advance best practice and innovation in impact assessment and advocates for its expanded use for the betterment of society and the environment.

Communicate the societal benefits of impact assessment (IA) in planning processes to policymakers, decision-makers and the general public. IA is one of the few public policy tools that can address climate change, clean air, clean water, and biodiversity and protect vulnerable populations such as Indigenous Peoples, women & children and other disadvantaged populations. IAIA provides information on IA though electronic communications, social media and free publications available on our website www.iaia.org. Resources provided to members, include access to paid publications/subscriptions and journals, such as Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal and online community group, IAIAConnect.
Organize and deliver annual conferences and symposia for information-sharing, learning, and networking of our members and other individuals and organizations. IAIA19 was held in Brisbane, Australia 29 April 2 May 2019 with nearly 900 participants from 78 countries. IAIA prepared conference announcements, managed program development and venue arrangements, collected registration fees, and promoted the event. No regional symposia were held in 2019.
The Professional Development Program (PDP) provides online training in project-based impact assessment and related studies. The training is designed to support individuals involved in carrying out studies, reviewing those studies, or otherwise participating in assessing the impacts of projects while the projects are being considered for approval. PDP courses are trainer-supported, meaning that each course participant works one-on-one with an experienced trainer using online communication tools. In 2019, 53 participants completed the course.
