To protect property and lives of persons by extinguishing, preventing and/or suppressing fires, and to provide rescue services in the Mt. Aetna district of Washington County, MD and adjoining areas.
Mt. Aetna Volunteer Fire department continued to provide fire and rescue services to the community, along with mutual aid to surrounding fire, rescue and EMS companies and the areas they serve. Our volunteers responded to a total of 311 emergency calls for service during the 2020 fiscal year. We placed in service a new Engine-Tanker unit that upgrades our emergency vehicle fleet and provides 3000 gallons of water for rural firefighting needs. Our department continued providing fire prevention and education activities for local residents, students and children, hosting an open house for the public during our 50th anniversary celebration. (Note, the department was organized in 1969, and later incorporated in 1971.)
