Organizations Filed Purposes: AMR coordinates & provides affordable, frequent, nationwide respite & fellowship opportunities for parents and other caregivers who have loved ones with disabilities. We support parents of children/adults with special needs, all adoptive & foster guardian, special educators, men/women caring for their own injured or chronically ill spouses, spouses of wounded veterans and law enforcement, and those caring for their own elderly, infirm parents. Adequate rest is crucial to keep the caregivers health.

In our first full year of operation, the Terrance Guest House hosted (45) respite 3-night respite weekends. Of these, (6) were exclusively for dads/men. We hosted (15) diagnosis-specific retreats, including for foster/adoptive parents, those caring for loved ones with Alzheimers, those caring for injured/disabled spouses, parents of children with Down syndrome, Autism, XXY Syndrome, and several others. One weekend we hosted a Moms Day Out party for the Kentucky Derby, where everyone came in their fancy hats and dresses. Other non-retreat weekends included participation in our town's Historic Tour of Homes, as well as other Open House weekends for the public as additional fundraising opportunities. We installed an ADA bathroom on the ground floor, completed an archaeological excavation of our original Tavern Carriage Path, replaced the roof, installed a new HVAC system, and began work on a 7th guest room & bath in the attic. In 2019, we hosted (249) caregivers in this one location alone. We were booked solid nearly every weekend, with 10+ on the wait list. In Nov 2019, we began a new Capital Campaign for a 2nd inn property located in Georgia to serve Southeast region caregivers. We still function on a fully volunteer staff. We rely entirely on donation from our guests and the community to support our most basic operating expenses. Grant seeking will be more rigorous in 2020 and beyond.

National network of existing B & B Inn partners who host multiple 3-night respite retreats throughout the year at discounted rates, exclusively for eligible AMR parents & caregivers. AMR accepts the reservations and payments from guests, and in turn, pays the innkeepers directly at the time of the event (s). An additional $10 donation is included to help cover the costs incurred by PayPal. Some donors "sponsor" our Signature Events including our #SLEEPMATTERS Cruise for Moms, Mommy & Me trip to Jekyll Island, GA, and our Family Glamp trip to Jellystone Park in Mammoth Cave, KY. Some donors contribute to our YES! Fund, which provides grants to individual guests who can't otherwise afford the regular Porch Partner retreats. New B&B partners join us monthly, expanding our ability to provide frequent affordable respite to parents & caregivers nationally. In 2019, our Porch Partners hosted (59) respite retreats, serving close to (550) caregivers. We had (10) families at Jellystone Park, and (35) moms and daughters at Jekyll Island.

In 2019, we served just one family in need with approximately $640 in back utilities payments. With our unexpected inn purchase in Maryland, Raising Appalachia will be set on the backburner of program offerings until such time as we have a paid staff and grant writer to pursue funding & outreach.
