SUMMER PERFORMING ARTS INTENSIVES: IN JULY 2019, YAA'S SUMMER PERFORMING ARTS INTENSIVES INCLUDED TWO, 2-WEEK SESSIONS WITH NEARLY 200 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AT SANDY SPRING FRIENDS SCHOOL. STUDENTS TOOK CLASSES IN ACTING, VOICE, AND DANCE AND REHEARSED FOR A FULLY-STAGED MUSICAL PRODUCTION. STUDENTS PRESENTED SIX MUSICALS, INCLUDING "13: THE MUSICAL," "MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG," "ALADDIN JR.," "DEAR EDWINA," "SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, AND "ELEGIES," WITH COMBINED AUDIENCE OF 750.
YAA PERFORMANCES: YAA PRESENTED ONCE UPON A MATTRESS ON TWO DATES: OCTOBER 27, 2019, AT THE CLARICE AT UMD, AND NOVEMBER 2, 2019, AT MILLENNIUM STAGE AT THE KENNEDY CENTER. THE PRODUCTION FEATURED APPROXIMATELY 50 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT INSTRUMENTALISTS AND 80 HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT VOCALISTS, WITH A COMBINED AUDIENCE OF 1500. BECAUSE OF THE CLOSURES DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE WERE UNABLE TO PERFORM OUR PRODUCTIONS OF "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST" AT THE MUSIC CENTER AT STRATHMORE IN MARCH, AND "FROZEN JR.," IN MAY AT AMP BY STRATHMORE, AS PLANNED. INSTEAD, WE PERFORMED THESE PRODUCTIONS VIRTUALLY IN JUNE 2019. "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST" INCLUDED 150 STUDENT PERFORMERS. "FROZEN JR." FEATURED 40 STUDENTS.
YAA CLASSES: SEPTEMBER 2019-JUNE 2020: YAA SERVED APPROXIMATELY 80 STUDENTS WITH YEAR-LONG, WEEKLY CLASSES IN VOICE, ACTING, AND DANCE, INCLUDING YAASTUDIO, A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO MUSICAL THEATRE TRAINING. IN MARCH, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, ALL CLASSES MOVED TO A VIRTUAL FORMAT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
