Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE CORPORATION'S OBJECTIVES ARE THE PROMOTION AND PRODUCTION OF THEATRICAL WORKS, THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF ORIGINAL, CLASSICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PLAY IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE THEATRES AND AUDITORIUMS.
OLNEY THEATRE PRODUCES LIVE THEATER IN OUR NEW MAINSTAGE AND MULITZ-GUDELSKY THEATRE LAB ACROSS THREE RUBRICS: CONTEMPORARY, CLASSICS AND FAMILY. EACH SEASON INCLUDES 9-10 PRODUCTIONS THAT MAKE-UP OUR MEMBERSHIP SERIES AND AVAILABLE FOR SINGLE-TICKET PURCHASE. TITLES INCLUDE WORLD AND REGIONAL PREMIERES AND RE-IMAGINATIONS OF PLAYS AND MUSICALS THAT APPEAL TO A WIDE VARIETY OF INTERESTS. ADDITIONALLY, WE PRESENT THE WORK OF OTHER THEATER COMPANIES TO ADD TO THE VARIETY OF PROGRAMMING INCLUDING A THEATER FOR YOUNG AUDIENCE (TYA) PRESENTED IN THE HISTORIC THEATER.
THE NATIONAL PLAYERS (NP) IS OLNEY THEATRE'S RESIDENT TOURING COMPANY AND CORNERSTONE OF OUR EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM. NP PERFORMS 3 PLAYS IN REPERTORY OVER A 9 MONTH PERIOD AND TOURS TO MORE THAN 50 LOCATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. EACH TOUR INCLUDES A HOMESTEAD PERFORMANCE AT OLNEY THEATRE THAT IS OPEN TO MEMBERS, SINGLE TICKET BUYERS, AND LOCAL SCHOOL GROUPS. IN ADDITION TO PERFORMING, NP LEADS CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, TALK-BACKS AND OTHER EDUCATION ACTIVITIES FOR AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES. AMONG THE VENUES THEY TOUR ARE ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, CORRECTION FACILITIES AND NURSING HOMES. MEMBERS OF THE NP TOUR ARE ALSO TAUGHT HOW TO USE THEATER AS A TEACHING TOOL IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS.
A CORE COMPONENT OF OLNEY THEATRE'S MISSION IS TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF THEATER-MAKERS AND AUDIENCES. WE DO THIS THROUGH: 1) THE APPRENTICE TRAINING PROGRAM WHERE 16 EARLY-CAREER THEATER PROFESSIONALS TRAIN ALONGSIDE PROFESSIONAL MENTORS FOR ONE YEAR; 2) THE OTC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT WHERE THREE STAFF MEMBERS AND OTC TEACHING ARTISTS CREATE AND IMPLEMENT OTC EDUCATION INITIATIVES; AND 3) THE ARTS INTEGRATION PROGRAM AND SUMMER CAMPS WHERE KIDS AGES 9-16 PARTICIPATE IN AFTER-SCHOOL AND IN-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES THAT CULTIVATE THEIR PERFORMING ARTS INTERESTS.
