Organizations Filed Purposes: THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF IMMUNOLOGISTS (AAI) IS AN INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION REPRESENTING PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED SCIENTISTS WHO CONDUCT BASIC AND CLINICAL RESEARCH ON THE BIOLOGY OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. AAI IS DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE KNOWLEDGE OF IMMUNOLOGY, FOSTERING THE INTERCHANGE OF IDEAS AND INFORMATION AMONG INVESTIGATORS, AND ADDRESSING THE POTENTIAL INTEGRATION OF IMMUNOLOGIC PRINCIPLES INTO CLINICAL PRACTICE. AAI SERVES ITS MEMBERS BY PROVIDING A CENTER FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THE FIELD AND ITS PRACTICES SUCH AS EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS, MEMBERSHIP-DERIVED ISSUES AND OPINIONS, AND IMPORTANT SOCIAL AND POLITICAL MATTERS. AAI OWNS AND PUBLISHES THE JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY-THE LARGEST AND MOST HIGHLY CITED JOURNAL IN THE FIELD.

TO ADVANCE AND DISSEMINATE THE KNOWLEDGE OF IMMUNOLOGY AND RELATED DISCIPLINES, TO FOSTER INTERCHANGE OF IDEAS AND INFORMATION AMONG INVESTIGATORS IN THE VARIOUS DISCIPLINES, AND PROMOTING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY.

THE JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY:A MAJOR VEHICLE OF INFORMATION DISSEMINATION FOR RESEARCH FINDINGS IN THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY IS THROUGH PUBLICATION OF THAT WORK IN THE JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY (THE JI) - A SCHOLARLY PUBLICATION OWNED AND PRODUCED BY AAI. THE JI IS PUBLISHED SEMIMONTHLY AND REPORTS NOVEL RESULTS FROM ALL AREAS OF EXPERIMENTAL IMMUNOLOGY. IT IS THE OLDEST AND MOST HIGHLY CITED JOURNAL IN THE FIELD. THE JI IS PUBLISHED IN PRINT AND ONLINE, AND IS DISTRIBUTED TO ALL AAI MEMBERS AS WELL AS OTHER SUBSCRIBERS, INCLUDING MAJOR RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS AND BIOTECH COMPANIES. ABSTRACTS OF ALL ARTICLES ARE PUBLISHED ONLINE IMMEDIATELY UPON PUBLICATION, AND ARE FREELY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. FULL LENGTH ARTICLES ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE TO THE PUBLIC 12 MONTHS AFTER THEIR INITIAL PUBLICATION. ALL JOURNAL CONTENT CAN BE VIEWED AT WWW.JIMMUNOL.ORG. THE JI EDUCATES AAI MEMBERS AS WELL AS NON-MEMBER SCIENTISTS AND PHYSICIANS, AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY. IT ALSO FOSTERS SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE AMONG IMMUNOLOGISTS BY ESTABLISHING A FORUM FOR THE DISSEMINATION AND DISCUSSION OF CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH IN IMMUNOLOGY. OVERSIGHT FOR THE ACTIVITIES AND POLICIES OF THE JI ARE CARRIED OUT BY AN EIGHT-MEMBER PUBLICATION COMMITTEE, WHICH ALSO INCLUDES THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WHO SERVES AS THE EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF THE JI.

AWARDS:THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF IMMUNOLOGISTS ANNUALLY HONORS THE RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROFESSIONAL PROMISE OF OVER 1,000 SCIENTISTS THROUGH FELLOWSHIPS, CAREER AWARDS, AND TRAVEL GRANTS. AAI FELLOWSHIPS PROVIDE REGULAR AND TRAINEE MEMBERS WITH CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH PROGRAMS SUPPORTING TRAINEES' SALARIES AND PUBLIC POLICY EDUCATION. AAI CAREER AWARDS HONOR INDIVIDUALS FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AND CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS. AAI MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THESE CAREER AWARDS, WHICH ARE AMONG THE LEADING PROFESSIONAL HONORS PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO IMMUNOLOGISTS. AAI TRAVEL AWARDS AND GRANTS RECOGNIZE THE PROMISE AND BOLSTER THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF INVESTIGATORS OF ALL CAREER STAGES BY ASSISTING THEM WITH TRAVEL TO THE AAI ANNUAL MEETING AND TRAVEL TO LEARN TECHNIQUES. IN ITS COMMITMENT TO THE CULTIVATION OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROMISING YOUNG SCIENTISTS, AAI ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR OVER 100 TRAVEL AWARDS AT SELECTED OTHER IMMUNOLOGY CONFERENCES.

ANNUAL MEETING:EACH YEAR, AAI HOLDS AN ANNUAL MEETING WHICH DRAWS THOUSANDS OF ATTENDEES AND HUNDREDS OF EXHIBITORS. ATTENDEES INCLUDE BOTH AAI MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS WHO HAVE AN INTEREST IN IMMUNOLOGY. DURING THE ANNUAL MEETING, AAI OFFERS A VARIETY OF LECTURES, SEMINARS, AND SYMPOSIA ON SCIENTIFIC TOPICS RELATED TO THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY, WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL ATTENDEES.MUCH OF THE CONTENT OF THE ANNUAL MEETING IS FOCUSED ON THE NEEDS AND INTERESTS OF STUDENTS AND TRAINEES IN IMMUNOLOGY. TRAINEES MAY ATTEND THE MEETING AT A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED COST, AND THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO PURSUE SPEAKING OPPORTUNITIES AT THE MEETING AND TO ATTEND PROGRAMS AND SEMINARS GEARED TOWARD IMMUNOLOGY STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER IMMUNOLOGISTS. INCLUDED AMONG THE WORKSHOPS AT THE ANNUAL MEETING ARE PROGRAMS ON GRANTWRITING, FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMMUNOLOGISTS, CAREERS IN SCIENCE, AND PROFESSIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND CHALLENGES UNIQUE TO WOMEN AND UNDER-REPRESENTED MINORITIES IN SCIENCE AND ACADEMICS.AT THE ANNUAL MEETING, AAI ALSO SPONSORS A CAREER RESOURCE PROGRAM FOR ALL REGISTRANTS. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES ATTENDEES THE OPPORTUNITY TO POST THEIR CVS, LEARN ABOUT JOB OPPORTUNITIES, AND ATTEND SEMINARS ON INTERVIEWING FOR JOBS AND PREPARING RESUMES.
