WE EXIST TO END THE ABUSE OF ANIMALS RAISED FOR FOOD. WE BELEIVE A WORLD THAT'S FREE OF ANIMAL ABUSE STARTS WITH A WORLD THAT HAS LESS ANIMAL ABUSE. STEP BY STEP. DAY BY DAY. BIG SOCIAL CHANGE IS A JOURNEY OF SMALL, YET MEANINGFUL, INCREMENTAL STEPS. ENDING THE USE OF CAGES. GIVING ANIMALS MORE SPACE. BANNING CRUEL BREEDING. ALL OF THESE WINS CHANG THE FACTORY FARMING SYSTEM, SLOWLY BREAKING DOWN ITS WALLS AND GETTING US CLOSER TO OUR GOAL - TO END THE ABUSE OF ANIMALS FOR FOOD.
END THE ABUSE OF ANIMALS RAISED FOR FOOD THROUGH INSTITUTIONAL & INDIVIDUAL CHANGE.
SINCE OUR BEGINNINGS 15 YEARS AGO, WE HAVE BEEN BUILDING OUR MOVEMENT INTO A GLOBAL FORCE, COMMITTED TO SOLVING A GIANT GLOBAL PROBLEM - THE ABUSE OF ANIMALS RAISED FOR FOOD. IN 2019, WE SHARED OUR STRATEGIC PRINCIPLES - THE KEY WAYS IN WHICH WE ACHIEVE OUR MISSION:1. CREATE BIG SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH MEANINGFUL, INCREMENTAL STEPS.2. BUILD A GLOBAL COALITION THAT IS BIGGER THAN OURSELVES.3 DEVELOP A MOVEMENT THAT IS STRONGER EACH YEAR. IN SUPPORT OF THESE PRIORITIES, WE SECURED 88 COMMITMENTS FROM SOME OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST COMPANIES, TO END THE WORST FORMS OF ABUSE ON FACTORY FARMS - INCLUDING THE CRUEL CONFINEMENT OF EGG-LAYING HENS IN BATTTERY CAGES, AND THE INHUMANE BREEDING AND UNNATURAL LIVING CONDITIONS EXPEIRIENCED BY CHICKENS RAISED FOR MEAT. FOR INSTANCE, IN THE UK, THE GIANT RESTAURANT CHAIN, KFC, PUBLICLY PLEDGED TO ADOPT WELFARE STANDARDS FOR CHICKENS RAISED FOR MEAT - SPARING 72 MILLION CHICKENS FROM SUFFERING. AND IN THE US, WE PERSUADED THE LIKES OF CONAGRA AND DENNY'S TO ADOPT WELFARE STANDARDS FOR CHICKENS RAISED FOR MEAT. IN JAPAN ALONE - HOME TO MANY OF ASIA'S LARGEST FOOD COMPANIES - 23 CAGE-FREE COMMITMENTS WERE SECURED, UTILIMATELY FREEING MILLIONS OF CHICKENS FROM CAGES. SECURING ANIMAL WELFARE POLICIES FROM CORPORATIONS IS HALF THE BATTLE. WE MUST ALSO ENSURE COMPANIES FOLLOW-THROUGH ON THEIR COMMITMENTS. IN 2019, WE SUCCESSFULLY HELD 17 COMPANIES ACCOUNTABLE TO THEIR EARLIER CAGE-FREE COMMITMENTS, THE FINAL STEP IN ELIMINATING THE CAGING OF HENS FROM THESE COMPANIES' SUPPLY CHAINS. THROUGH IT ALL, WE CHANGED HEARTS AND MINDS - OPENING EYES TO HORRIFYING WAYS IN WHICH ANIMALS ARE TREATED ON FACTORY FARMS. IN TOTAL, WE EARNED 18,256,361 VISTIS TO A WEBPAGE WITH UNDERCOVER FACTORY FARM FOOTAGE, WITH 11,199,794 MINUTES OF FACTORY FARM FOOTAGE WATCHED. WE ALSO EARNED 300 MEDIA MENTIONS FOR OUR CAUSE, INCLUDING BLOOMBERG, VOX, AND BBC NEWS. AND 15,855 PEOPLE SIGNED PLEDGES WITH THE HUMANE LEAGUE TO LEAVE ANIMALS OFF OUR PLATES.IT WAS MOMENTOUS YEAR FOR THE ANIMALS, AND THE FIGHT IS FAR FROM OVER - BECAUSE EVERY ANIMAL DESERVES A LIFE FREE FROM SUFFERING AND ABUSE.
