SUNFLOWER'S PASTRY ARTS TRAINING PROGRAM (PATP) CURRENTLY INCLUDES 10 WEEKS (240 HOUR) OF FORMAL PASTRY INSTRUCTION FROM A CURRICULUM DEVELOPED BY SUNFLOWER, 8 WEEKS (160 HOURS) OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING INCLUDING SERVSAFE TRAINING AND 8 WEEKS (160 HOURS) OF A SUPERVISED, PAID IN-HOUSE INTERNSHIP HONING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND CONFIDENCE BUILDING. EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING OCCURS IN THE SECOND AND THIRD PHASES WITH STUDENTS RECEIVING EXTENSIVE PREPARATION INCLUDING INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION, SELF-ADVOCACY, PROBLEM-SOLVING TECHNIQUES, TIME-MANAGEMENT, PERSONAL HYGIENE, RESUME WRITING AND INTERVIEW PRACTICE. STUDENTS DEVELOP A PERSONAL PROFILE AND RECEIVE GUIDANCE AND ASSISTANCE TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT. THREE MONTHS OF ACTIVE JOB MONITORING BY SUNFLOWER HELPS TO ENSURE A GOOD MATCH AND SUNFLOWER'S INVOLVEMENT CONTINUES FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS AFTER GRADUATION. THE AFTERNOON AND SUNFLOWER TEEN PROGRAM OFFERS A BAKING BASICS OPPORTUNITY IN A PROFESSIONAL KITCHEN UNDER THE INSTRUCTION OF OUR CHEFS FOR TEENS 14-18 WITH LEARNING DIFFERENCES. TEENS GAIN EXPOSURE TO THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTION KITCHEN AND BEGIN TO LEARN ESSENTIAL SKILLS.
CAFE SUNFLOWER EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM - EIGHT YOUNG ADULTS ARE ACCEPTED ANNUALLY (TWO PER QUARTER) TO THIS 9-MONTH PROGRAM. THE FIRST 3 MONTHS ARE CUSTOMIZABLE TRAINING USING A CURRICULUM PLAN DEVELOPED BY SUNFLOWER INCLUDING INFORMAL EVALUATION. THE STRUCTURED, ON-THE-JOB TRAINING AND EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT ADDRESSES CUSTOMER SERVICE, WORK ETHIC AND ATTITUDE, COMMUNICATION, TIME MANAGEMENT, GOAL-SETTING, PROBLEM SOLVING, EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY, RESPONSIBILITY AND HONESTY, SUCCESS AND SETBACKS. IF SUCCESSFUL DURING THE FIRST 3 MONTHS, TRAINEE MOVES INTO 6 MONTHS OF CAFE EMPLOYMENT. EMPLOYEES WILL WORK WITH TRAINED VOLUNTEER. DURING THE FINAL 4-6 WEEKS ON RESUME DEVELOPMENT, INTERVIEW ROLE-PLAYING AND GUIDANCE WITH THE JOB SEARCH
