Organizations Filed Purposes: Tri-Community Mediation is a nonprofit organization that offers mediation and conflict resolution services in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset Counties in Maryland. In order to make mediation accessible to everyone, we provide mediation at no cost to particpants. We are a program of the community, by the community, and for the community. It is our mission to create a more just and peaceful Lower Eastern Shore.

Community Mediation: Received 189 referrals to mediation as a result of partnerships and outreach throughout the community. Held 346 intake conversations with people in conflict, deeply listening to their situation, explaining the mediation process and working to establish a mediation session. Provided 123 mediation sessions at no cost to the participants throughout Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties from diverse referral sources such as schools, police, community members, faith based institutions, courts, government and non-governmental agencies at any stage in the dispute and held in accessible locations throughout our service area.

Supporting People in Transition: Provided conflict management training and in-person mediation intake conversations to support community members in transition through the Wicomico County Drug Court and Prisoner Re-entry. Participants learn to manage conflict more effectively and have the opportunity to resolve conflicts with important people in their lives through mediation. This leads to fewer interactions with the criminal justice system, reduced recidivism, improved life outcomes, and increased stability for individuals, families, and communities.

Youth Diversion Program: Set up procedures and policies for mediation referrals for youth who are experiencing interactions with law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Trained over 100 employees at the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office, Salisbury Police Department, and Department of Juvenile Services, and established MOU's with these organizations. The goal is to address and resolve underlying situations and factors in young people's lives through collaborative processes, and therefore decrease future contact with the criminal justice system (the school-to-prison pipeline).
