THE AMERICAN COLLEGE HEALTH ASSOCIATION (ACHA) SERVES AS THE PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP ORGANIZATION FOR ADVANCING THE HEALTH OF COLLEGE STUDENTS AND CAMPUS COMMUNITIES THROUGH ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH.

EDUCATION: ACHA HOSTED A WEEK-LONG ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN DENVER, COLORADO IN WHICH 2,073 PEOPLE ATTENDED. 172 EDUCATION PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED SUPPLYING CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS IN TEN FIELDS. ACHA ALSO OFFERS A NUMBER OF ONLINE CONTINUING EDUCATION OFFERINGS. DURING 2018, ACHA ALSO APPROVED CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT FOR 5 EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING FOUR OF OUR REGIONAL AFFILIATES AND ONE UNIVERSITY.
IN 2018, MORE THAN 114,000 COLLEGE STUDENTS AT 180 SCHOOLS WERE SURVEYED WITH THE ACHA NATIONAL COLLEGE ASSESSMENT. THE DATA GATHERED IS USED BY THE SCHOOLS TO ALLOCATE RESOURCES, PLAN, AND EVALUATE PROGRAMS. ACHA CURRENTLY OFFERS 25 BROCHURES FOR YOUNG ADULTS WHICH EMPHASIZE AWARENESS, RISK REDUCTION, AND PREVENTION OF A WIDE VARIETY OF COLLEGE HEALTH TOPICS. THESE BROCHURES PRESENT INFORMATION IN A NONJUDGMENTAL MANNER, AND ARE WRITTEN BY VOLUNTEER ACHA MEMBERS. THE BROCHURES ARE IN THE PROGRESS OF BEING UPDATED WITH A NEW DESIGN. 3) ACHA OFFERS MEMBERS ACCESS TO AN ONLINE DISCUSSION FORUM, ACHA CONNECT,IN WHICH MEMBERS CAN SHARE IDEAS, DISCUSS TOPICS, NETWORK, ETC. THE FORUM INCLUDES SEVERAL SUB-FORUMS BASED ON ACHA'S EXISTING NETWORKS (SECTIONS, COALTIONS, ETC.) THERE ARE TWO QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS, ACTION AND HEALTHY CAMPUS EXECUTIVE UPDATE, AND A WEEKLY E-NEWSLETTER, THE SOURCE.
ADVOCACY AND REPRESENTATION: ADVOCACY EFFORTS IN 2018 CONSISTED OF NON-LOBBYING EFFORTS TO INTERPRET REGULATIONS RELEASED UNDER THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AND EDUCATE THE ACHA MONITORS PROPOSED LEGISLATION REGARDING PROTECTING STUDENTS FROM SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND LEGISLATION IMPACTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. ACHA ALSO ENGAGED IN NON-LOBBYING ADVOCAY EFFORTS TO EDUCATE MEMBERS AND STAKEHOLDERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS, STUDENT WELL-BEING, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF CAMPUSES AND ORGANIZATIONS ASSISTING STUDENTS TO MEET THEIR BASIC NEEDS.
