Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES OF CHILDREN AND PEOPLE IN NEED AROUND THE WORLD.
LEARNING CENTERS: DISCOVERY LEARNING ALLIANCE (DLA) ESTABLISHES LEARNING CENTERS IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES IN NIGERIA, KENYA AND GHANA. LEARNING CENTERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH TV'S AND DVD PLAYERS. MAJOR PROGRAM EXPENDITURES COVER THE COSTS OF LOCAL MANAGEMENT, TEACHER TRAINING, PROVIDING RELEVANT VIDEO PROGRAMMING, AND PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION. DLA PROVIDES TRAINING, MONITORING AND SUPPORT TO EACH LEARNING CENTER (USUALLY FOR A PERIOD OF 18 MONTHS OR MORE) TO ENSURE ENHANCED TEACHING METHODS, USE OF THE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES PROVIDED, AND TO HELP ENSURE LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY.
VIDEO PROGRAMS: DLA PRODUCES ORIGINAL EDUCATIONAL VIDEO PROGRAMS THAT ARE DONATED TO EACH LEARNING CENTER. EACH PROGRAM IS THE RESULT OF A CLOSE COLLABORATION AMONG EDUCATORS IN THE COUNTRIES WHERE DLA IS ACTIVE, REFLECTS THEIR REQUESTS, IS TRANSLATED INTO THE APPROPRIATE LOCAL LANGUAGE, AND IS MAPPED OR LINKED TO THE LOCAL CURRICULUM. PRODUCTION COSTS INCLUDE PRODUCERS, EDITORS, STUDIO TIME, FOOTAGE, CREWS, AUDIO, NARRATORS, ETC. IN ADDITION, DLA CUSTOMIZES THE VIDEO LIBRARY IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES INCLUDING HAUSA, SOMALI AND KISWAHILI - BOTH VOICE OVER AND SAME LANGUAGE SUBTITLES.
THE LUCKY SPECIALS FILM: WORKING CLOSELY WITH WORLD-RENOWNED SCIENTISTS AND PRODUCTION PARTNERS, DLA PRODUCED A FEATURE LENGTH DRAMATIC FILM TITLED "THE LUCKY SPECIALS" DESIGNED TO EDUCATE THE SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN PUBLIC ABOUT THE BASIC SCIENCE OF TUBERCULOSIS (TB). THROUGH STATE-OF-THE-ART ANIMATION, "THE LUCKY SPECIALS" EXPLORES THE DYNAMIC INNER WORLD OF THE HUMAN BODY, REVEALING THE UNSEEN WORLD OF TB. DLA PREMIERED "THE LUCKY SPECIALS" IN 2017 AND DISTRIBUTES THE FILM THROUGH FREE-TO-AIR SOURCES, AT FILM FESTIVALS, AND THROUGH TERRESTRIAL BROADCASTERS AROUND THE WORLD.
