The mission is to accelerate students mastery of core academic subjects and to close the achievment gap. The George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy, Inc. has been in in operation since 1986 and has enhanced the academic achievment of 1,000s of children in Montgomery County, MD.
The core program of the George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy, Saturday School offers tutoring and mentoring in reading/language arts, mathematics, and test taking skills for students in grades 1-12. The GBTLA became a sponsor of the AmeriCorps program Project CHANGE during fiscal year 2007. AmeriCorps strives to Get things done in America to make people safer, smarter, and healthier. Project CHANGE placed over 23 AmericCorps members working with 14 non-profit organizations and government agencies to further the mission of the AmeriCorps program.
