To operate a summer camp, which conducts an educational and religious Jewish/Hebrew program for children, in conjunction with Habonim Dror, the Labor Zionist Youth Movement.
Program Service 1 (Summer Camp): Habonim Dror Camp Moshava's primary purpose is to provide an overnight summer camp experience for Jewish youth, which it has been doing continuously since 1935. Due to the global pandemic, Mosh had to conduct camp very differently in 2020, and for the first time in 85 years we were unable to hold overnight camp. Instead, we ran a robust, virtual camp program for more than 75 participants. As always, camp was run by our youth leadership, who designed five weeks of varied activities for multiple age groups to keep them engaged and connected with their camp friends and with the camp.
Program Service 2 (Bonimot Tzedek): Mosh's program for teens interested in social justice flourished in 2020, despite the move to an all-online platform. High school students gathered virtually every week to work on local and national campaigns and projects related to social justice. The program is very successful in keeping older teenagers engaged throughout the school year, while providing a Jewish lens for social justice action.
Program Service 3 (Year-Round and Outreach): As a summer camp, Mosh strives to keep campers and youth leaders engaged year-round. We saw an unexpected increase in participation in our year-round activities due to the move to a virtual environment. In the beginning of the pandemic, we ran several programs weekly but moved to 2-4 programs a month in the fall season. Young people greatly valued the opportunity to continue to connect with the Mosh community.
