SEE PART III, LINE 1.

CENTER FOR MILITARY MEDICAL RESEARCH:THE CENTER FOR MILITARY MEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM IS THE UNIT WITHIN THE INSTITUTE THAT EXECUTES THE MAJORITY OF THE RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT ARE FUNDED THROUGH OUR DOD GRANTS. IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF FY17, THE INSTITUTE CARRIED SEVERAL OF THESE GRANTS, INCLUDING CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON THE ELEMENTS OF HEALTH PRESERVATION WITHIN THE ARMED FORCES, RESEARCH ON PAIN AND STRESS IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING SURGERY AT A MAJOR MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER, A CLINICAL TRIAL OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR CHRONIC AND RECURRENT BACK PAIN IN MILITARY PERSONNEL, AND THE USE OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT. IN 2017, ALL OF THE MILITARY GRANTS WERE TERMINATED AND REISSUED TO ANOTHER NON-PROFIT RESEARCH ORGANIZATION (TLIF), EXCEPT FOR THE "THE MILITARY COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE RESEARCH FOR MILITARY OPERATIONS AND HEALTHCARE (MIL-CAM)," WHICH CONTINUED IN THE INSTITUTE'S HANDS THROUGH JULY 2017, AT WHICH TIME IT ENDED.

CENTER FOR HEALING AND WELLBEING:SAMUELI INSTITUTE CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON AN INTEGRATIVE CANCER TREATMENT PROGRAM IN VANCOUVER, BC. THE RESEARCH WAS FUNDED BY THE HECHT FOUNDATION, USING FUNDS PREVIOUSLY CONTRIBUTED TO SI. THE PROGRAM WAS TRANSFERRED TO UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SAN DIEGO, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF ONE OF THE COLLABORATORS ON THE PROJECT.ACUPUNCTURE AND PAIN-SAMUELI INSTITUTE RESEARCHERS COMPLETED A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL EVALUATING TWO ACUPUNCTURE METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF TBI-RELATED HEADACHES. THAT STUDY AND ITS RESULTS WERE PUBLISHED IN 2016 IN MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE. THE STUDY PROVIDES EVIDENCE OF THE BENEFIT OF INCLUDING ACUPUNCTURE AS A CARE OPTION FOR TBI-ASSOCIATED HEADACHES AMONG ACTIVE DUTY PERSONNEL. THE INSTITUTE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN A JOINT INCENTIVE FUND PROGRAM TO ASSESS THE IMPACT ON HEALTHCARE OPERATIONS OF AN ENTERPRISE-WIDE TRAINING PROGRAM IN A SIMPLIFIED EAR ACUPUNCTURE TECHNIQUE. RESULTS OF THIS PROGRAM WILL BE DISSEMINATED IN 2017, AND MAY INFORM THE PROCESS OF SPREADING INTEGRATIVE PRACTICES FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT ACROSS THE DOD.INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE AND PTSD- THE INSTITUTE ALSO COMPLETED THE EVALUATION OF THE BACK-ON-TRACK PROGRAM AT CAMP LEJEUNE. PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS SHOWED SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE EFFECTS ON PTSD AND COMBAT-RELATED STRESS SYMPTOMS FROM THIS HOLISTIC, INTEGRATIVE PROGRAM. THIS STUDY VALIDATES THE IMPORTANT RETURNS ON THE MILITARY'S INVESTMENT IN THE BACK-ON-TRACK PROGRAM AND PROVIDES A FULLY-DEVELOPED DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM THAT WILL BE USED BY THE PROGRAM ON AN ONGOING BASIS TO CONDUCT RAPID ANALYSES IN THE FUTURE.
