YACHAD, --A HEBREW WORD FOR "TOGETHER" --IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION MOBILIZING VOLUNTEERS, SKILLED AND UNSKILLED TO REPAIR AND PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING, COMMUNITY FACILITIES AND COMMERCIAL PROPERTY THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND GREATER METROPOLITAN AREA SINCE 1990. YACHAD BRINGS COMMUNITIES TOGETHER TO PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND REVITALIZE NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND THE METROPOLITAN AREA. YACHAD MEANS TOGETHER AND THAT'S HOW WE DO OUR WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HOMEOWNERS, HOUSES OF WORSHIP AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS. WE MOBILIZE VOLUNTEERS, INVEST FINANCIAL RESOURCES, AND WORK TOGETHER TO TRANSFORM PEOPLE AND PROPERTIES. OUR MISSION IS ROOTED IN THE JEWISH RESPONSIBILITY TO SEEK JUSTICE BY ENGAGING IN ACTS OF LOVING KINDNESS. WE WELCOME PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS TO SHARE IN OUR WORK TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITIES INCLUSIVE AND VITAL.

SINGLE FAMILY HOME REPAIR PROGRAM - (INCLUDES SUKKOT IN SPRING, WEATHERIZATION AND HEALTHY HOUSING SERVICES, AND THE HANDYMENSCH PROGRAM) PROVIDED CRITICAL HOME REMEDIATION AND WEATHERIZATION SERVICES TO 56 SINGLE FAMILY HOMES AND 16 APARTMENT UNITS, ACCOUNTING FOR OVER 200 RESIDENTS. OVER 1700 VOLUNTEER HOURS INCLUDING SKILLED VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED SOME OF THE SERVICES. 35 CONSTRUCTION-RELATED FIRMS PROVIDED REDUCED FEE SERVICES TO YACHAD. RAMP IT UP! BUILT A RAMP FOR A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. 16 VOLUNTEER TEENS WORKING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A SKILLED CONTRACTOR PROVIDED THE SERVICES.
NONPROFIT AND COMMUNITY FACILITIES PROGRAM - PROVIDED VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE TO FIVE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO RENOVATE AND REPAIR THEIR FACILITIES MAKING IT SAFER AND MORE FUNCTIONAL FOR THE ORGANIZATION'S TO OPERATE THEIR PROGRAMS. THE WORK INCLUDED BUILDING A RAMP FOR ONE GROUP, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, PAINTING, INSTALLING NEW FLOORING AND ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATIONS. 7 VOLUNTEER GROUPS PROVIDED SERVICES, PROVIDING 600 VOLUNTEER HOURS.
HEALTHY HOUSING ADVOCACY - YACHAD WAS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE DC HEALTHY HOUSING COLLABORATIVE, ADDRESSING THE INTERSECTION OF HEALTH AND HOUSING IN DC. SUBSTANDARD HOUSING CONDITIONS ARE A SOCIAL DETERMINANT OF HEALTH, AND YACHAD' REMEDIATION WORK IS HAVING A MAJOR IMPACT ON IMPROVING THE HEALTH CONDITIONS OF CLIENTS. YACHAD STAFF IS INVOLVED IN DATA COLLECTION, CREATING A COMPREHENSIVE HEALTHY HOUSING SERVICE DELIVERY SYSTEM AND HARM REDUCTION COMMUNICATIONS.
